Summary of the Book

After the death of her parents, Jane Eyre went to live with her maternal uncle. After his death, she continues to live in the house, but she is constantly abused by his wife. The only friend Jane has in the house is the maid, Bessie. Jane is sent to Lowood Institution after an apothecary recommends her admission citing her poor health. There, she encounters the cruel director, Mr. Brocklehurst. After a few years, she becomes a teacher, eventually resigning to follow the footsteps of a friend and become a governess. Her search for a job brings her to Thornfield Hall, where she accepts the post of a private tutor for Adele Varens. There she meets Edward Rochester, a man as mysterious as he is charming. What is it about Rochester that makes Jane feel he is not like other men? What secrets line the closet of his heart?
